Who Is Chatmeter: Meet The Developer Behind Our Pulse Tool
We take a lot of pride in our software. Our developers are dedicated to keeping Chatmeter fast, reliable, and constantly evolving. Two years ago we launched our sentiment analysis tool Pulse to help brands get better insight into how their customers feel about their brand, products, or service. Today, this tool has become a customer favorite, which is why I’d like to introduce you to the lead developer behind this tool and many others, Nate Turner.
Nate has been a Senior Developer at Chatmeter for over 2 years and he has helped to build some of our most used tools on the Chatmeter platform. Some of his biggest projects include; Pulse, search analytics, listing management, and bulk review responding. Here’s a look at what Nate has done for our fan-favorite tool, Pulse.
You work on our Pulse Sentiment Analysis tool most, tell us a little about the tool. What does it do and how does it work?
“Pulse analyzes the tone of the sentences in our clients’ reviews. It uses some pretty fancy natural language processing to do this. Pulse can accurately determine the key topics in reviews and what the author’s sentiment (negative/positive/neutral) was at the time of writing.”
We even color code everything so the user can easily identify how customers are feeling about a certain topic. The tool not only identifies topics and the sentiment of those topics, but it organizes the topics into different graphs. These graphs show the frequency of a topic, how the sentiment trends over time, and even a breakdown of how customers feel about a topic as a whole.
“Our algorithms are trained on the English language and can accurately predict topics found in a sentence. This is great for identifying trends related to our clients’ business across the many review sites online.”
What are some of the best ways a brand can use Pulse?
“Pulse is great at identifying the most frequently discussed components of businesses. It can help them make smart business decisions based on customer feedback.”
Best of all, the tool cuts down the time it takes for a business to read through customer feedback. Brands simply tell pulse which topics they want it to track, and Pulse will help identify the sentiment of those topics and easily organize the feedback for a user to read through.
“For example, a large retail chain may find that their customers often complain about parking. Or a hospital might find that their in-house cafeterias are highly praised. The retail chain might then decide to invest in parking garages while the hospital might decide to do a better job promoting their already excellent eateries.”
Pulse helps a brand to identify areas they’re excelling at as well as areas customers want to see improved. This goes beyond managing a brand’s online reputation, it gives them real and actionable insight they can use to make changes in store.
What is the most interesting topic you’ve seen in Pulse?
“I’ve seen some topics that I never would have guessed were as common as they are. Spouse, wife, husband, boyfriend, and girlfriend pop up as common topics for a lot of our clients.”
We’ve seen brands track a lot of different topics in Pulse from cheese curds, to karma, Hello Kitty, and so much more.
You’ve been on the Chatmeter team for a while, what are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?
“Some of my favorite projects I’ve been involved in are Listing Management, Pulse and Search Engine Analytics. I think all three of these provide a ton of value and it’s great to see the tools I’ve built help our clients measurably climb in ranking and traffic.”
Our search analytics tools are great because they integrate directly with Google and Yelp. This can save clients countless hours by not having to log into several different places to find the analytics they need. Not to mention, our search analytics go back much further than Google’s data (90 days). We can give a client historical data as far back as their first review.
What is your favorite part about working at Chatmeter?
“I love creating a product that helps people, not just the brands that use it. But the best part about Chatmeter has to be the team members! I really enjoy working and learning from the talented employees here.”
Our engineering team is made up of some of the best and brightest developers in the country. Our developers have diverse backgrounds in biotech, gaming, and even art, with experience working for some big companies like Sony, Intuit, and Disney.
“Management is very friendly and you can tell they care about client success as well as team member success. We have some of the most talented, fun and down to earth individuals I’ve ever met working here.”
Even though Nate works remotely, when he and our Lead Developer, Adrian (who also works remotely), are in town they fit right in. Chatmeter really cares about the happiness of their employees which is why they always push us to our best potential and encourage us to celebrate our successes.
You’re one of two Chatmeter employees who work remotely, what does a typical day look like for you?
“I wake up early, walk downstairs, and make a fresh pot of coffee before I get started. I feel the most productive in the morning so I like to get as much as I can done before our 10:30am meeting with the team every day.”
Our development team works in two-week sprints which means we have new upgrades both big and small being released every other week. Their ability to accomplish so much in such little time is truly incredible.
“During lunch, I’ll hit the gym then get back to my work in the afternoon. I schedule most of my meetings later in the day in order to keep myself as productive as possible in the mornings.”
Our Founder and CEO, Collin Holmes, really stresses the importance of a good work-life balance. What does your life outside of work look like?
“I really enjoy cooking, I recently took up gardening to learn even more about food. One day I’d like to homestead. You can also find me skiing, fishing, and hunting, anything outdoors really.”
We’re proud to have amazing developers like Nate on our team. They’re the people behind our software and it’s their dedication to making a great product that helps brands to protect their online reputation. Want to see how Pulse works?
